Nemo - The Line-Following Robot

Saturday, February 10th, 2007

This is a robot I finished putting together today. He follows lines on the floor, and not that well I might add. He’s my first robot to ever build and I think I’ll name him Nemo.

UPDATE: I’ve changed the front LED’s from red to yellow and added a brushguard on the front to add clearance and added protection from getting snagged on the carpet and it’s made worlds of difference. Nemo now follows a line for hours and almost never loses the line. The one time he did, he circled around and found it on his own - see the video of his track.

ROBOTS!!!

Sunday, January 21st, 2007

Here are the brains to a new robotics project I’m working on. See all the pretty flashing lights? I programmed it to do that! The firmware is an embedded OS, something called TinyRTOS, and it includes memory and queue management, a lightweight TCP/IP stack and all sorts of other goodies and an API to control all the analog inputs and digital outputs. The firmware is written in C, compiled and transferred to the controller board via USB where it stores itself on EPROM and runs until power is disconnected. You can also control the device via OSC commands using UDP or USB packets. Shit… I’m such a nerd.

My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.
